Toko Teleca

This is the Toko Teleca, not to be confused with the Ricoh Teleca 240 (now part of the collection), a subminiature camera incorporated into a compact pair of binoculars.

The Teleca uses 16mm film in a special cassette, though Hit-type 17.5mm can apparently also be used.

This should give you the first clue that this will be on display rather than shooter, as the camera mechanicals very similar to other Hit cameras. It does have a flip-tip cassette loading system and the shutter speed is controlled by a slider.

Visually, the Teleca is a beautiful camera, the chrome taking lens and Hit-type body contrast nicely with the binocular portion which is described as “3 power” binoculars in the manual. I have disassembled and cleaned the binoculars, which were hazy, but now function as they should.

Being a Hit-type camera, the shutter is quite wonky and I have not been able to get it to fire reliably enough to warrant loading film, though I am eager to do so.
