Rollei 35RF

This is the Rollei 35RF, one of the newer film cameras in my collection. It is based on a Cosina chassis similar to the Voightländer Bessa R2A and Bessa L. With TTL metering and solid controls, it is easy to shoot with. I don’t have any Leica M-mount lenses, but am able to use thread mount glass (like the Canon Serenar 50mm with which the sample pictures were taken) with the aid of an adapter.

The ergonomics are almost identical to the R2A, but the 35RF has a better grip. This particular camera functions perfectly and I had no problems running the first roll (Ultrafine 100) through it. I look forward to putting some of my favorite film in it.

  1. The Rollei 35RF is really the same camera as the Voigtlander Bessa R2. The R2A is of course a different shutter assembly but also a very different top plate and controls. The Bessa R2 and 35RF have only a couple cosmetic differences, one could literally be built from the others’ parts. This is also the same body on which the digital Epson RD-1 was built. Of course, all of Cosina’s cameras are derived from the Cosina CT-1 which also got dressed up to become the Nikon FM10 and numerous other competitor camera brands/models.
