Nikon FE2

This is the Nikon FE2 an SLR with center-weighted TTL metering. It was introduced by Nippon Kogaku in 1983 and manufactured until 1987. This particular camera was manufactured in April of 1984 according to the four-character code in the film chamber.

The first number or letter represents the month of production. 1 thru 9 for January thru September and O, N, D for October, November, and December.

The second character is the last digit of the production year. If the camera was produced for less than a decade, you’re done with the identification. If more, then other resources such as the serial number should be used to determine year of production.

Though not as hefty as other Nikon SLR cancers of the era, the FE2 is well built Ava comfortable to operate. The TTL needle-matching light meter is intuitive and accurate, especially with a film such as Delta 100 that tolerates a wide latitude of exposure.

Sample images on Ilford Delta 100 stand-developed HC110 for 30 minutes. These were all using the camera’s internal meter which appears to have overexposed everything a touch.
